I also saw this (quite a while back) but (perhaps mistakenly) assumed
it was because the cache filled the partition (dt has a small disk.)
The append bug is a much more consisten explanation...
I think it also explains why gnu/cygnus configure was failing
(appending fragments to Makefiles...)
Would it explain why emacs undump doesn't work?
