Just something that I feel should be pointed out, if it hasn't already:
the use of 600dpi fonts is fine, and all, and really nice if you want
to look at one letter at a time in your xdvi window. But try to preview
the entire page at once in your xdvi window, and you will find that it
is VERY difficult to read. I seem to have no choice but to use
a smaller magnification, and keep paging back and forth. I find
this unacceptable, however. To my eyes, previewing with 600dpi
fonts allows better magnification, but WORSE viewing of the document as
a whole.
Has this been discussed beforehand?
Also, the fact that xdvi fails now, without the -p 600 option is BAD.
Backwards compatibility sort of suggests that the 300dpi fonts should
have stayed around--because the pk files would have different names
for the two, they could have co-existed peacefully. Also, what about
people who don't have 600dpi printers? There ARE a lot of LN03's left
out there...
