Also, the people I talked to about it decided that it was reasonable
to print the "unable to open..." message if -ttymode wasn't specified
(in case you really did want a display used, but something went
wrong), and I heard no suggested alternative for the rest of the
message from the people I was told to ask.
The only change for this release was that -ttymode gets rid of the
"unable to open..." message.
