The update procedure to 7.2 blew away my /.k file and my
/etc/rc.local file because they were non-standard. /.k is
debatable, but /etc/rc.local should definitely not be considered
non-standard.
I also get the 9500: can't open error as I started the update.
The update procedure should check the size of the root before
starting the update. I would have bet a lot that I had done the
repartitioning of soup a long time ago. I distinctly remember
backing up site and resinstalling. Although minidisk showed
that my disks had the new sizes, df did not. I don't understand
this at all, but in any case, my / filled up and it took me a
long time to figure out that this was because I needed to
repartition (given that I thought I had already done so).
The reason that I actually lost /etc/rc.local and /.k is because
I didn't notice that the instructions had changed for keeping
nonstandard files. I therefore habitually hit ^C which didn't
work, and CTRL-ALT-PAUSE rebooted a bit too late...
Fortunately, I backed up rc.local. Now all I have to do is
remember the password for my kerberos realm... :-(
