I got xlogin and/or xdm into a hung state on my pmax this morning, after
playing with the situation that generated the problem I just reported.
I've got a core file from xlogin and xdm (both from kill -QUIT), and a
later core from Xmfbpmax (from a different session, I think; it took a
few kills to get things re-started properly).
xlogin had apperently tried an activation, but the attach was idle (I
eventually gunned it down before making the core files).
