I believe you can specify an alternate place for the rgb database to live using
the -co option in starting the X server. This would be a good thing as
/usr/lib/X11 really does not want to be a symlink farm.
For the mpel, the problem of finding /usr/lib/mpel should be addressed. Do we
want to store it in a non-standard place or should a ddx specific handler for
the mpel allow you to specify the ucode file. Should an extension be made for
the plx code as well?
