Netscape Release Team Update
----------------------------
Netscape Communications Corporation released Netscape 6.1 on August
7. The Netscape Release Team continues to work on the certificate
generation problem in Netscape 6.1. However, there is no immediate
solution in sight.
Because support for 6.1 is not imminent, the release team plans to
provide an MIT tailored version of Netscape 4.78. Netscape 4.78 fixes
the file and registry permission problem that users of Windows 2000
have had with 4.74. Additional improvements available in 4.78 for
several platforms include:
- Windows 2000 Restricted User support.
- Various bug fixes (including security ones)
- Improved Mousewheel support on Windows platforms
- Improved support for Sun Java plug-in
- Support for Solaris2.8.(Athena)

Timeline
--------
The estimated date for delivering Netscape 4.78 with an MIT installer
is not later than mid-November, more likely earlier than that.
Testing

We will begin testing after we have put together custom installations
for MIT. We will solicit for testers at that time.
