Subject: Caution: IE 6 Public Preview can break Eudora and Netscape!
------------------

Good Afternoon,

IS has recently received a number of reports of difficulties with Internet
Explorer 6 Public Preview breaking Eudora and Netscape on Windows
machines. While this is beta software and we do not expect most clients to
be using beta software, we are sending out a warning because of the recent
number of problem reports.

The warnings from Microsoft before downloading the preview are:
- No product support
- For advanced users only
- Not for your primary computer

Internet Explorer is deeply intertwined with the Windows operating systems,
so we strongly discourage everyone from testing IE 6 Public Preview on
machines which are needed to get work done.

If you have already installed Internet Explorer 6 Public Preview, and need
assistance in removing it, contact the Computing Help Desk. Please note
that, to date, the only solution we have found for removing IE 6, once
installed, is to reinstall the operating system.

Computing Help Desk
- call x3-1102
- email pc-help@mit.edu
- on the web at http://web.mit.edu/helpdesk/

Thanks,
Jonathan
