----------------

Good Afternoon,

At this time we are not prepared to recommend Windows 2000 SP2 for the MIT
community. We need to complete some additional testing. We do not
anticipate that any of the MIT Supported applications will have problems,
but choose to verify. Our testing to date has not uncovered any issues. We
hope to have the testing completed and a recommendation before the end of June.

If you regularly use an application and have upgraded to SP2, we would be
interested in any problems or lack of problems you experience with that
application after applying SP2. A test form is available at
<http://web.mit.edu/swrt/win2000/sp2test.html>.

A few issues with SP2, which should not effect MIT, are listed in the
release notebook <http://web.mit.edu/swrt/win2000/>. One example is that
SP2 caused problems for Exchange 2000 and Windows 2000 Domain Controller.

Interestingly, Windows 2000 SP2 includes a number of updates for Internet
Explorer 5.0, but not for IE 5.5. If you install SP2 and are running IE
5.5, you will also need to apply the patches for IE 5.5, which are
available from
<http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/current.asp?productID=80&servicePackId=0>.

For up to date information on release effort, see
<http://web.mit.edu/swrt/win2000/>. If you have questions or suggestion,
please send email to jmhunt@mit.edu.

Thanks,
Jonathan
