Hello,
At the recent IT Partners conference Information Systems introduced a
new web page to assist MIT Community Members with choosing an
appropriate high speed Internet provider for their home (cable or
DSL).
The page can be found at:
http://webmit.edu/is/help/network/highspeed.html
This web page is designed to help clients understand the differences
between a cable modem and DSL so that they can decide which is best
for them. It includes information about which providers are in the
greater Boston area, their approximate price ranges, speeds and any
provider specific caveats.
Readers are advised to contact the provider directly for the most
current information and details. The page states clearly that IS is
offering this information as a service to MIT, and does not endorse
any providers named.
I would like to call particular attention to a new feature on the web
page. We have created an archived mailing list for members of the
community to send opinions and information on the various providers.
To share your opinions and information, please send email to
<highspeed-feedback@mit.edu>. You can read submissions to this list
on the web at
http://diswww.mit.edu/menelaus/highspeed-feedback/
Information Systems is committed to maintaining the information on
the page, but we need you and your clients help to provide feedback
on the actual experiences with these providers, so that together we
can provide as much relevant information to the MIT community to help
individuals choose the right high speed service for them. The e-mail
list, <highspeed-feedback@mit.edu>, is a public list so you can
subscribe or read the archive if you wish.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions or requests for the
web page. The team that created this page can be reached at
remote@mit.edu, or you may email me directly.
thank you,
Alicia Allen
