Good morning!
Just recently, IS announced support for Macintosh OS X, a core suite of OS
X applications and also Windows XP SP1. Although it has been a very busy
time, it has also been a rewarding one. At this time, we wish to extend
our sincere thanks to everyone who helped in our efforts. Without you, we
could not have accomplished all this work.
Below you will find updates on projects in which the Software Release Team
is currently engaged. With the assistance of team members throughout the
MIT community, we are working toward IS support for the following software:

December is fast approaching. Have you upgraded to the latest supported
versions of the above software or recommended/alternative products listed
below? If not, http://web.mit.edu/software is where you want to begin.
*FileZilla, and SecureFX are secure file transfer product alternatives for
Plop and WS-FTP. FileZilla is a supported and recommended product and
support is being prepared for SecureFX and SecureCRT.
*Information Systems' Publications team has seen a decline in PageMaker use
on-campus with increasing demand for Quark and InDesign.
The Training and Publications team is offering a Pagemaker course on campus
during the Winter of 2003. In addition, they will also offer a Quark class
during this time frame.
WINDOWS' WORKSTATION DISCONTINUED ON DECMEBER 31, 2002
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Windows ME for December, 2002
To support this, we have purchased a large Windows XP Professional volume
license from Microsoft. The license covers Faculty and Staff.
Briefly, several critical reasons for the decision to discontinue Windows
ME IS:
- Microsoft is discontinuing Windows NT & 98 in June, 2003
- Our statistics indicate that the use of ME on campus is minimal and NT
usage is decreasing
- We are focusing our ongoing efforts on Windows 2000 and XP.

We're also looking for volunteers to participate in our release

Sincerely,
Deb Bowser
