Good morning:
The Kerberos for Mac Release Team is wrapping up their evaluation and
preliminary testing of KfM 4.0 for the Macintosh. In addition, Business
Process Owners across the Institute are currently engaged in testing their
respective applications with Kerberos for Mac. At this time, we wish to
extend testing to the MIT community. We are looking for approximately 20
volunteers who would be able to volunteer a few hours of their time.
MIT Kerberos for Macintosh (KfM) is the reference implementation of the
Kerberos authentication system for the Mac OS. KfM provides support for
both Kerberos protocol versions, all the major Kerberos APIs and wraps it
all into a simple Macintosh package.
KfM 4.0.x has many new features. In addition to enhanced support and
functionality for Mac OS 8.6 - 9.2.2, there is native Mac OS X
support. Testing will focus on the interoperability between kerberos and
the integration of all currently supported kerberos dependent applications
under all supported Macintosh operating systems including Mac OS X*.
*Please note that Mac OS X is not supported at this time.
Some issues to consider prior to volunteering:
Available time for active evaluation:
- a 2-3 hour allotment for testing
What we will test:
- installation process (upgrading and new installs)
- integration of kerberos and dependent applications
- usefulness of the draft MIT documentation.
If you agree to assist, we will provide the following:
- installer
- draft documentation
- test results reporting form
- help
STANDARD DISCLAIMER:
While we would prefer that you conduct the test on a machine that will
receive regular use, the software you will be testing could cause
unexpected changes to your system. If you do use a production machine, you
should plan to back up before installing the software and frequently during
the testing process
As an alternative, we offer the Integration Laboratory located in N42 for
testing or the Software Release Team Test Lab located in W92. If you would
prefer to test in a lab, please contact me to make arrangements.
If you are interested in assisting with the evaluation, please contact me
by June 5. Testing is expected to commence on Monday, June 10 and end on
Monday, June 24.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me or, the
Kerberos for Macintosh Release Team (kfm-release@mit.edu)
Sincerely,
Deb Bowser
