Re: Critical Vulnerabilities in Mac OS X 10.4

Apple Computer has announced and made available updates to their Mac OS
X 10.4 operating system to resolve serious security problems. We
recommend that all security enhancements be applied as soon as
possible, unless you know of reasons why your computer should not be
updated. Use the Software Update feature (under the Apple menu) to
download and install critical updates.

The most important of these patches is an update to the base operating
system that blocks the automatic installation of Dashboard widgets.
Mac OS X's Safe Download Validation warning is enabled, requiring user
approval before a Dashboard widget is installed by Safari. This issue
does not affect Mac OS X versions prior to 10.4.

Further technical information on this and other Mac OS X software
issues can be found at http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/, or
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61798.

If you have questions about this advisory, contact <security@mit.edu>.
