Project Name: Enterprise Printing Delivery Project
Team Members: Kip Bruggeman, Mary Ellen Bushnell, Rocklyn Clarke,
Lynne Durland, Dave Lambert & Cecilia Talamantes
Report Date: 05/21/2000
Project Notebook: http://web.mit.edu/is/delivery/enterprint/
Accomplishments for the past period:
- reached a team agreement to move forward with IBM's InfoPrint Manager
for AIX
- Mike Whitson left MIT; welcomed Lynne Durland to the team
- continued testing IPM; installed the E19 3160 printer on MITnet;
successfully printed several SAP Postscript reports on the AFP 3160
printer in E19 to Gil Emmons' satisfaction; also printed successfully
from Mac & NT desktops
- prepared outline for stakeholder check-ins
- held a check-in meeting with VM-SST and ASST
- completed work to identify all costs for the current service and
finished business modeling draft of the current service
- met with Karen Fortoul and Rachel Sage to discuss PSF/VM Beta Test and
IBM 3827 -> 3160 printer conversion; subsequently determined that the
beta test would not be necessary
- met with Xerox again to review their offerings; currently their S/W
products do not address our needs
Goals for the coming period:
- complete initial IPM testing with loaner system
- hold check-in with FSS & CAO folks
- finalize IPM server H/W configuration with ASST and obtain purchase req
- finalize IPM S/W configuration and obtain purchase req
- complete final edit of the current service business modeling description
- begin drafting the business model for the new service
- begin developing a detailed rollout plan
- resolve troublesome IPM print file problem with Jeff Banta
- work with ITIT to "ratify" the proposed security position paper
(carry over)
- resolve implementation rollout resource and timing issues (see
issues below)
Issues:
Getting consensus to replace the 3827 printer with a second IPM
compatible 3160 outside of the project team has been difficult.
A meeting has been scheduled by Roger to resolve resource and rollout
timing issues.
Key learnings:
Consensus is a wonderful thing but very difficult to obtain.
Team dynamics:
We miss Mike Whitson but are very glad to have Lynne Durland on the
team.
Additional comments:
We'll need to plan carefully for a phased rollout.
