Hi Everyone,

My responses are interspersed with Lynne's text below, but I also
want to say that in general, I am bothered by the statement "If Jody
she needs documentation". We are building a one of a kind service
from assorted components. Jody has been a part of this process from
the beginning and has installed these components and worked with both
Garry and Miki to do so. I don't know if "I need documentation" is a
literal statement from her, but if it is, I don't find it helpful.

Here is what I believe should be our response every time this
statement is made:

  1. We have provided you with a documentation template at the following URL:

        http://web.mit.edu/east/www/central_print_maint.html

Please review it and bookmark it for future reference.

  2. Please identify specific missing pieces of information that we
can give you.
Are there specific things that we need to add to the template?

  3. Please don't make us act as intermediaries between ASST and Miki or Garry.
We're all part of IS and the work will be done more efficiently if we
communicate directly with the people who have the information we need.

Am I off base here? If not, I propose that Lynne judiciously
incorporate my responses into an email or personal response to Jody.
If that doesn't work, then perhaps I should meet with her.

Rocklyn

As I said in two previous emails, Miki is waiting for Jody to contact
her about this. Miki has evidently prepared documentation and Jody
should call or meet with her to get it and to plan the work.

In Garry's last email to IPM-SYS he provides a pointer to the
replacement lpd. I suggest that we install that on Plunder. The
documentation for LPRng is the same web based documentation that Jody
used to install the product on Pillage in the first place. There is
a local copy available at:

      http://web.mit.edu/source/third/lprng/doc/LPRng.html

As far as our local customizations are concerned I would point to the
template that I started and turned over to Lynne and Mary Ellen:

      http://web.mit.edu/east/www/central_print_maint.html

I asked ASST to review it several months ago to let us know if we
were on the right track. I don't recall that we ever heard back from
them, so I would like Jody's feedback on it.

The directories are described in the central printing maintenance web
page referred to after question #4 above.
