Hi

I am writing to let you all know about TecsChange's (Technology for
Socail Change) next round of Computer Repair/Earn-a-Computer classes.
See www.tecschange.org for more info. The next class is set to begin
on Monday, Sept. 10th at 7pm. This is our 21th Course (see details
below) and we still have a large number of people who want to take this
class. But we would like you to know that we would still love to see
some of you former students! You are the reason that this class has
become a successful way for people to develop new skills
AND make a difference!

Mon & Wed 7:00 - 9:30 p.m., starting Sept. 10th and running
for 6 weeks

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tutor Training
As usual, we need tutors who can commit to one evening per week, either
Monday or Wednesday. If you are interested in becoming a tutor, please
contact me by email. Please indicate which night you would prefer to
tutor (Mon, Wed or both).
**Also note: For those who have never tutored with us
before or if you need a quick refresher, we will be holding 2 separate
Tutor Orientation tracks.

Both track Orientation on how we run the program, how we approach the
tutoring process and encourage student participation.
Introduction to our hardware diagnostic programs, CMOS set
up and the how we check out computers, followed by more hands on
session, actually working on computers and going through the
process.

Track 1: Wednesday & Thursday Sept. 5th and 6th from
7-9 PM.

or
Track 2: Saturday Sept. 8 th from 1 to 4 PM

We understand you might not be able to make all these
sessions, try to make it to what you can. Any questions you can email
or
call me 577-1759 x125 (days).

If you want to get a head start you can check out some info
about our course on the web at http://www.tecschange.org

All the way, at the bottom of page about our Computer
Repair Course, there is a link to the handouts for the course (this
version is a little bit old) which will give you more of a sense of the
material covered.
It's at http://www.tecschange.org/syllabus if you want to go
directly to it.

**Other volunteer opportunities

--------------------------------------------------------------
Whether you just graduated from the earn-a-computer class,
are thinking
about tutoring, or just want to learn more about computer
hardware,
hands-on volunteering is the best way to sharpen your
skills. The
TecsChange office is now open every Saturday afternoon from
1-4pm. We

have many projects for volunteers to work on. Stay for one
hour or
three. Most projects involve working on computers that will
be sent to
organizations in the developing world.

Locate Sources of Equipment
------------------------------------------------
We seek donations of: PC-compatible computers (Pentium
200MHz or
better), memory, hard disks, modems, printers, monitors,
and manuals for
any of the above. If you or organizations (or companies)
you know of can
help us, please contact us.

Lend an extra hand
--------------------------------
We are also looking for volunteers to help us with mailings
and general
administrative help. Let us know what skills you'd like to
share with
us....Thanks!
