Emergency Appeal
16 Workers Fired from Courtyard Nursing Home in Medford for Speaking Out!
Last Thursday, sixteen predominantly Haitian women workers were fired from
Courtyard Nursing Home for an "illegal work stoppage" after protesting the
suspension of their fellow worker.
These workers, who voted overwhelmingly to join SEIU local 285 in April,
have been trying to get a first contract. Since then, they have been
subjected to constant verbal abuse and harassment, while the home is
constantly short staffed, threatening patient care.
Courtyard, which made two million dollars in profit last year, is owned
jointly by Genesis Elder Care, New England Medical Center, and Hallmark
Healthcare.
Please call and fax Courtyard's owners, and demand that these workers be
reinstated, with back pay and a fair contract.
Let them know we will not let this injustice stand!
