Greetings to the Citigroup crew!
This is Chris, the Boston Field Organizer for the Citigroup Boycott - dropping you a friendly reminder of upcoming meetings, events, and a briefing of recent success stories.
First and foremost, there is going to be a meeting tomorrow night at the Rainforest Action Network's Allston office. 6:00pm. Just take the B-Line to the Harvard Ave Stop, take a right and go one quick block, and then take a right onto Brighton Ave. it's across the street at 107 - go up the stairs of the sign that says "THE ALLSTON MALL". 1 min walk from the T
This meeting is to really get acquainted with the campaign and to go over what's coming up in the next two big push weeks of the campaign and semester (for some).
MEETING TUES OCT 10th,
BANNER PAINTING OCT 11th - @ MIT
CITIGROUP RECTUIRMENT OCT 13TH -@ MIT
INTERNATIONAL DAY OF ACTION OCT 17TH - State Street, Boston. Rally at Salomon Smith Barney (Citi's corporate lending face)
Yeah, it looks like a lot, but it really isn't too bad at all. We just need to add onto the momentum that we've already got -most noticeably from MIT!
At MIT,
-over 100 direct calls were placed to Citibank, asking them why they engaged in lending practices that harm environments and communities
-over 90 "bills" were signed and faxed by MIT students telling Citibank to stop funding destruction.
-over 300 signatures from the MIT community are on a petition telling Citigroup to leave campus until it cleans up its act.
This stuff can be, and should be done at every boston campus possible. The media eats it up and it makes tangible and positive social change. We are getting in on the ground floor of fixing perhaps the one thing that will determine the health of our earth and species - the redefining of the Global Economy. We are the ones who should be shaping globalization, not corporations like Citigroup who assume no risk, but receive all benefits.
We will be doing some trainings this Wednesday night on 1. Raps - to classes and groups 2.Media relations (press releases, talking to reporters)
Plus some pizza, etc. for eats.
