Subject: JN: BBC slant obscures the truth about Peru
Today the people of Peru, are demonstrating before the world that they are
not a nation of sheep. The boycot of the farcical elections and of all
their candidates - including Mr. Toledo - already - despite the fines and
persecutions the state threatens to non voters - achieved over 50% of the
total of electors registered bak at the "first round" in April 9.
Today that boycot - THE CITIZENS GENERAL STRIKE - will prevail and over 80%
of Peruvians will demonstrate to the world the illegitimate character of
the fascist state of Fujimori and his so called "opposition" as well.
The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) - in it's web page, is failing
to report accuratedly the Peruvian situation to the point of deliberately
misleading their readers.
The BBC has plenty of Spanish translators, nevertheless they fail to
translate correctly the slogans of the pictures they themselves are
publishing.
A clear example. The BBC recognises that the walls of the cities and
villages of Peru are covered everywhere with the slogan NO TO VOTE - which
is the people's slogan. However, the caption under those photographs which
clearly call for the boycott of the elections, translates as "VOTE NO TO
FRAUD", which in fact is the slogan of the "candidate" Toledo.
There is an enormous difference in this, and the BBC is misleading public
opinion directly and with no shame.
The people of Peru are not boycotting the elections because of Mr.Toledo or
anyone else. They are doing it because they know nothing can come out of
these "elections" but further fascist tyranny.
The BBC has a "reputation" (much diminished now under the Blair regime).
Can they not ascertain the facts instead of lying translated what the
people of Peru are saying to make it appear that this a quarrel between
Fujimoristas and Toledistas?
Justice International supports the Peruvian people's struggle for freedom
and against tyranny. Therefore it cannot but protest the glaring failures
of the media, particularly the BBC, which is suppossed to be committed to
impartiality and objectivity. BBC: Get some proper translators, and more
importantly, tell the truth!
