Please join the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy as it presents,
as part of its speaker series,
Bringing Equality Home:
Implementing the Convention on the Elimination of All
Forms of Discrimination against Women
with
Ilana Landsberg-Lewis
Advisor to UNIFEM (The United Nations Development Fund for Women) on CEDAW
Ilana Landsberg-Lewis facilitates UNIFEM programs and strategies for enhancing
implementation, ratification, and understanding of the Convention in developing
countries. She is the editor of the UNIFEM publication, Bringing Equality Home:
Implementing the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination
against Women. In her work with UNIFEM, she has focused on issues of women's
human rights, and, in particular, the eradication of violence against women.
She will discuss how the Convention works, its potential at the international
and national levels as a tool for improving the condition of women's lives and
achieving equality for women, what the UN is and can be doing to implement the
Convention, and the role of academics, activists, and governments in
implementing CEDAW.
