To: Yale President Richard Levin
We stand in solidarity with the workers at Yale who were forced to go out on strike. We call on Yale to:
* Sit down with the graduate teachers and researchers of GESO, and work out an agreement on a democratic, fair, fast process for them to decide whether they want to unionize.
* Facilitate negotiations between District 1199 and the management of Yale's teaching hospital, and help work out an agreement on a democratic, fair, fast process for them to decide whether they want to unionize. (The hospital's board of trustees includes President Levin and other Yale officers ex officio.)
* End de facto racial segregation among Yale's workforce by creating programs to hire more local Latinos and to train those at the bottom -- mostly African-Americans -- so they can move into higher-skilled jobs.
* Settle fair contracts with Locals 34 and 35 so that these workers can support a family without working two or three jobs, and can retire with dignity.
