Help Somerville become a Civil Liberties Safe Zone!
(see http://www.municipalfreedom.org for more details)
The Somerville Bill of Rights Defense Committee is petitioning
in favor of a city resolution which would declare Somerville
a Civil Liberties Safe Zone, protecting its residents against,
among other things:
- - secret arrest without charge
- - search and seizure without probable cause
- - secret monitoring of patrons' records at bookstores and libraries
- - indefinite imprisonment without trial
Right now, our basic consitutional rights are threatened by the USA
PATRIOT act and other affiliated Federal actions, and dammit, we live
in America, where this isn't supposed to happen!
Cambridge has already passed a similar resolution, as have more than
80 cities and town around the country, including Oakland and San
Francisco, California; Denver, Colorado; Detroit, Michigan;
Minneapolis, Minnesota; Missoula, Montana; Burlington, Vermont;
Seattle, Washington and Madison, Wisconsin.
Help Somerville join their ranks: if you live in Somerville, or know
people who do, please sign the petition and help spread the word!
For more information, email info@municipalfreedom.org or check out
the website http://www.municipalfreedom.org
Thanks,
- -Jake
