On WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 5th
Boston City Council will consider a RESOLUTION TO KEEP
CAMILO VIVEIROS
FREE--You calls and visits to councilors are crucial!
COME TO CITY HALL:
10:30 a.m. to meet with Councilors
12:30 p.m. to attend the Council meeting
CALL THIS MORNING! Councilors' numbers are below.
Camilo Viveiros is a community organizer and
anti-corporate
globalization activist who is facing 15-40 years
behind bars due to the former
Philadelphia police commissioner John Timoney pressing
unjust charges
against him.
If we can get the Boston City Council to pass this
resolution, the
pressure will increase on Philly officials to drop the
charges against
Camilo.
People will be meeting at the Boston City Hall at
10:30 am to lobby the
Boston City Council and attend the 12:30 city council
meeting when the
below resolution will be discussed.
YOUR PRESENCE AND PHONE CALLS WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
If we do not press the Boston City Council it is
likely that the
resolution will be killed.

down to the city
hall!

RESOLUTION TEXT:
In City Council
City of Boston
Resolution Urging the City of Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania, to
Exonerate Camilo Viveiros
Councilors Chuck Turner and Stephen Murphy
February 5, 2003
WHEREAS: Camilo Viverios was arrested at the
Republican Convention
in 2000 which he attended to publicize the effects of
Republican polices
on working people: and
WHEREAS: Camilo Viverios has been a respected
tenant organizer on
the staff of the Mass Alliance of HUD Tenants for the
past five years,
working to empower tenants in Boston and southeastern
Massachusetts to
save and improve their homes; and
WHEREAS: The charges that Camilo Viveiros still
faces run counter to
the reputation of a man well-known in Boston and other
Massachusetts
communities for his unflagging commitment to strategic
organizing, level
headedness, and community peace and safety: and
WHEREAS: If convicted, Camilo Viveiros could face
up to forty years
in prison, depriving Massachusetts of a passionate
voice for economic
and social justice: and
WHEREAS: Camilo Viveiros has spent the majority of
his adult life
organizing for the housing and income rights of
working class and low
income people in Boston and southeastern
Massachusetts, where he was born
and raised: and
WHEREAS: He has gained the trust and confidence of
those he serves,
and hundreds of labor, community and faith
organizations that have
called for his freedom, along with local leaders from
the Mass Alliance of
HUD Tenants and Congressman Barney Frank: and
WHEREAS: The Republican National Convention was
marked by reports of
poor restraint and overzealousness by some law
enforcement personnel:
and
WHEREAS: The right to dissent publicly and
peacefully is one of
thenation's most vital civil liberties. THEREFORE BE
IT
RESOLVED: That the City of Boston calls upon the
Commonwealth of
Philadelphia to exonerate Mr. Camilo Viveiros and drop
all pending charges
against him. BE FURTHER
RESOLVED: That the City of Boston commends Mr.
Viveiros for the
important work he continues to perform on behalf of
low income tenants in
Boston and Massachusetts in the face of the burden of
his impending
trial.

The Lucy Parsons Center, Boston's collectively run
radical
bookstore features an extensive selection of radical
books and
magazines, internet access, space for talks and
meetings, and
free movies Wednesday nights. Located at 549
Columbus Avenue
in the South End the store is just down from Mass
Ave and
easily reached from the Mass Ave and Symphony T
stations and

----- What We Are -----
Bookstore. The Lucy Parsons Center has a
well-stocked
bookstore with new and used books and more than 200
magazines, newspapers and journals, covering every
wing of
the progressive movement. We also carry posters,
bumperstickers, t-shirt, cards, and pins. There are
low-priced
used and bargain books in addition to new titles,
Spanish-language books, and children's books.
Meeting Space, Info Space. The Center offers its
space free
to local activist groups for meetings and events. We
also
receive, display and distribute dozens of
newsletters, events
notices, and flyers from projects and organizations
locally and
around the world. We are hoping to buy a building
and stop
giving money to black hole (rent). But this takes
lots of $$$.
In-Store Events. We draw on the many outstanding
activists
in the Boston area, as well as visiting
progressives, to offer
lectures, readings, discussions, poetry, puppetry,
music, movies
and more on a wide range of issues of current
relevance.
Book Tables. We bring information into the community
by
setting up book tables and displays at conferences,
demonstrations, and events around Boston. Call if
you'd like
a booktable at your event.
Radical Movie Nights. Every Wednesday, the center
hosts
videos, films and documentaries on freedom struggles
in this
country and around the world.
