Hello Friends,

We are deeply concerned about the way President Bush is getting away with
the increasing use of unsubstantiated and fantastic allegations about Sadaam
Hussein's intentions and capabilities to push for an unjustified rush to
war. If you agree with us please read on.

Few people of influence are forcefully questioning the president's
allegations and motives. Those who are need to be encouraged and those who
aren't need to be persuaded.

The person who has spoken out most forcefully so far is Sen. Robert Byrd of
W. Virginia. Sen. Byrd is eager to hear people's opinions about the
situation and his position. Apparently phone calls have by far the most
impact. Joe just spoke with a woman in Sen. Byrd's office who was glad to
hear his opinion, said she'd pass it on to the Senator and strongly urged us
to call our own senators and representatives. We're doing this and we
encourage you to do the same thing.

If you live in Massachusetts, you can find our senators' and
representatives' phone numbers at

http://www.visi.com/juan/congress/cgi-bin/buildpage.cgi?state=ma

(Sen. Kerry wants to run for president. In our book, he needs to show some
forceful leadership when it counts before he'll have our votes for any
office in the future.)

If you live outside of Massachusetts, go to

http://www.visi.com/juan/congress/ and click on your state.

It would also help to call *Sen. Byrd* at 202-224-3954, Sen. Daschle at
202-224-2321 or 605-225-8823 and Rep. Gephardt at 202-225-2671 or
314-894-3400.

AND IF YOU FEEL STRONGLY ENOUGH, PLEASE PASS ON THIS INFORMATION TO YOUR
FRIENDS.

Thanks very much.

Best Regards,

Ruth and Joe

P.S. There are demonstrations taking place: Washington on Oct. 26, Boston
on Nov. 3 and other cities at various times. Please consider participating.
