Subject: March for Peace, against police killing
Friends,
On Monday, Eveline Barros-Cepeda was killed by the Boston Police.
Eveline was a 25 year old Cape Verdean woman from Dorchester, who was
the mother of a two-year old son. She had been riding in the back seat
of a car with friends and cousins around 1:30 in the morning. The
police say the car they were in ran a red light near Uphams Corner and
that they tried to pull it over. People in the car said they didn't see
any lights or hear any sirens. As they continued onto Quincy St,
another pair of cops saw them coming and one of them stepped out in
front of the car to make it stop. The car apparently hit the cop and
kept going. The other cop then opened fire on the back of the car as it
drove away, hitting Eveline in the back of the head. Boston police
regulations prohibit firing at a moving vehicle unless the cop's life is
in imminent danger.
Tomorrow evening, September 12th, Eveline's family is organizing a peace
march, which has become a tradition whenever someone is murdered in
Dorchester. The march will begin at 6:30 in front of Pilgrim Church at
540 Columbia Rd, near Uphams Corner (near Dudley St.), where the police
started pursuing the car, and will end on the site where Eveline was
murdered. The march is being organized by her family. Please come out
to express your solidarity with her family and the Cape Verdean
community, and to protest yet another murder by the Boston police.
A fund is being established to help provide for Eveline's son. Let me
know if you're interested in contributing, and I will send you more
information as it becomes available.
Peace,
Stacey
