Synopsis:
--------
Kalpana Sharma, currently a deputy editor with The Hindu newspaper, is a
renowned journalist who has been writing on social, environmental and
developmental issues for 30 years. During this time she has held senior
editorial positions with Himmat Weekly, the Indian Express and The Times of
India. In 1987, she was given the Chameli Devi Jain Award for an Outstanding
Woman Journalist. Her publications include, "Whose News? The Media and
Women's Issues" jointly with Ammu Joseph (1994) and "Rediscovering Dharavi:
Stories from Asia's Largest Slum" (2000). She is also on the board of
Society for Promotion of Area Resource Centres (SPARC) which works with the
urban poor,Centre for Environment Education, and Panos South Asia, which
works on media and development issues.
