Featuring the Following Speakers:
Selam Daniel:
Selam is a senior at MIT in Chemical Engineering and Management. In Jan. 2002,
Selam traveled to Eritrea, East Africa, with hopes of finding the truth about
the refugee crisis through photographs and interviews. She will present her
photodocumentary and the findings of her field work.
Jean Jackson, PhD.:
Dr. Jackson, Professor of Anthropology at MIT, has worked in Colombia for over
thirty years, most recently on the indigenous rights movement. She will speak
on the current situation in Colombia.
Sharon Stanton Russell, PhD.:
Dr. Russell is a political scientist and Senior Research Scholar at MIT's
Center for International Studies and Chair of the Inter-University
Committee on
International Migration. She will speak on international policy issues as they
pertain to various types of forced migrants, i.e., refugees, asylum
seekers, as
well as internally displaced people.
