Fellow students and MIT faculty and staff:

After weeks of discussion with fellow students, labor experts, and negotiation
with the MIT administration, the student organization United Trauma Relief
(UTR) has been given clearance to make recommendations to the MIT Academic
Council regarding the protection of workers who produce MIT-licensed apparel.

The UTR proposal to the Academic Council specifies means through which MIT can
ensure that factories producing MIT-licensed products follow basic codes of
health and safety.

The proposal calls for MIT to follow its peer institutions by joining the
Worker's Rights Consortium and the Fair Labor Association, and by setting a
manufacturing Code of Conduct.

The complete proposal is available for public viewing:

Best,
Sanjay Basu
