In yesterday's Metro there was a story on page 7 about
two BU women students who were punished for alcohol and/or
drug infractions that they self-reported in the process
of trying to press rape charges against fellow students.
Naturally, their assailants were not pursued and were not
punished.
What protections exist to be sure that that doesn't happen here?
And is there anything in writing? Students who are reporting
a crime should not be punished for being truthful about much lesser
crimes. Or does the sick cultural bias that a drunk or drugged
woman (or man) is by definition consenting trump the legal definition of
rape in this state as requiring meaningful consent?
I am curious to know what our new alcohol-dean has to say on this
matter.
In hope,
Aimee
