ACTIVIST INVOLVED IN THE MOVEMENT TO SAVE THE NARMADA FOR 12 YEARS.

     Film screening of NARMADA: A VALLEY RISES by ALI KAZIMI

The film documents the struggle of to save the Narmada River from damming
that will destroy the fertile land and displace over 160,000 people.  The
will of the people forced the World Bank to rescind funding of this

        ASSOCIATION FOR INDIA'S DEVELOPMENT (AID-BOSTON) PRESENTS
                       A TALK BY SHRIPAD DHARMADHIKARY 
                                   ON
                            THE NARMADA STRUGGLE                 
 
                         SATURDAY, 23. MARCH 2002

                         MIT, Bldg 4, room 237

 
 
 Shripad Dharmadhikary, was a leading activist with the Narmada Bachao
 Andolan (Save the Narmada) Movement for over 12 years. The NBA forced the
World Bank to rescind funding for a dam on the river.  The NBA continues
to fight the damming of the river as it is unecological and will result in
the forced displacement of people. Shripad was actively involved in the
negotiations to establish the World Commission on Dams, and in monitoring
the Commission's work. He was trained as an engineer at the Indian
Institute of Technology, Bombay.
