Press Release
Researcher George Hyatt to Talk on Genetic Engineering in Food

The U. S. Department of Agriculture has recently issued tough rules for
producing organic food. Genetically engineered material will be prohibited
in products labeled "organic,"but how will we know it has not been
included? How will the rules be enforced?

George Hyatt, Cambridge-based scientist and bio-tech engineer, will
discuss "Who Is Minding our Food?: Money, Science and the Public Welfare"
Wednesday, March 22 at 7:30 at Cambridge Forum, First Parish, 3 Church
Street, Harvard Square, Cambridge.

As a Senior Scientist at Genetic ID, Hyatt was successful in developing a
number of tests for the identification of genetically altered foods. He is
the founder and Senior Scientist at Bios-Pure Sciences, Inc. where he is
currently Laboratory Director of Research and Development.

Hyatt has held research postions and fellowships at Harvard Medical School
and Harvard University amd has taught courses in genetics and in molecular
and developmental biology at Harvard University.

He received a Ph.D. in genetics from The George Washington University in
1991. He also holds a masters degree in education and has broad teaching
experience at the secondary as well as the university level.

All Cambridge Forums are free and open to the public. After the speaker's
