exxon mobil...where to begin. i think for most of these companies, i'll
should list the violations without the history, because otherwise it
would take 20000 pages. briefly, 1998: exxon valdez; 1996, caught dumping
more than 2 billion gallons of untreated chemical wastewater; 1996,
Baytown refinery had 31 accidental releases of hydrogen sulfide; 1998,
charged $42 billion for pollution violations. human rights: 1998, cited
for using "military abuse" in shooting of unionizing factory
workers; 2000, charged with torture law violations; 2000, cited for
torture, murder, imprisonment and sexual abuse by members of the
Indonesian army unit who where hired by the company<br>

> Ford Motor Company<br>
in addition to building motors for the germans during wwII, while
reportedly knowing what was going on in the death camps, the company has
most recently had a lot of workers killed and injured in mexican
plants<br>

human rights. major defense resource, lobbying hard to get
health/education budgets lowered to put more money in defense.<br>

medical ethics codes, including bribery of physicians and
mischaracterization of pharmaceutical efficacy.<br>

>3M Corporation<br>
3M, as you might notice, stands for minnesota mining and manufacturing.
that might indicate the nature of the violations: mostly human rights
problems in bermuda, UAE, mexico, singapore, and uruguay. many
discrimination cases as well, most recently taken up by the state of
illinois human rights commission:

domestically, having several lawsuits because of rather open
discrimination against homosexuals. lots of animal testing violations,
particularly involving Huntingdon Life Sciences (Arial, Bold, Crest,
Fairy Liquid, Head & Shoulders, Max Factor, Tampax, Vidal Sasson and
Vicks). being pursued by the connecticut commission on human rights as
well.<br>

where to begin...<br>
it would not be far fetched to call this company the largest single cause
of death in colombia right now. manufacturers and lobbyists for most
helicopters that are now reported as being used by right wing
paramilitaries (there was a story just recently in the wash. post about
this) to kill farmers for land. recently refused to forego illegal
production of antipersonnel mines, and are responsible for the mines left
in cambodia and laos which were never picked up and are still causing
limb loss among children even thought they've developed the Rapid
Airborne Mine Clearance System (RAMICS)...they just aren't going to use
it (http://www.hrw.org/reports/2000/uslm/USALM007-03.htm). also
contributes heavily to turkish bombing of kurdish civilians, as reported
by the boston globe:

agriculture seeds. newly acquired by dow chemical.<br>

>Schlumberger<br>
has repeatedly supplied out to saddam hussein's army, through the period
of kurdish genocide. the second-largest U.S. oil-services company, which
still does business with many genocidal governments; institute profession
john deutsch (also a former CIA director) was on their board of
directors, as was dick cheney<br>

>Texas Instruments<br>
another dirty pollutor of toxic byproducts used in manufacturing
microchips. lots of pollution charges in colombia recently, where it
works with the defense department on the drug war.<br>

>Toyota Motors<br>
lots of labor violations in the philippines, with regular union busting.
many reports of beatings of union organizers in front of the Toyota
Bicutan and Sta.Rosa plants <br>

>United Technologies<br>
one of the largest electronics defense firms, with multiple human rights
violations and pollution charges. several million in PAC contributions,
along with worker abuse in the honduras, cayman islands, mexico,
singapore, and tunisia.<br>

>Xerox- The Document Co<br>
lots of cases involving discrimination against homosexuals. being
penalized for that by the illinois human rights commission. <br>
