And speaking from the inside, when I wanted to install several
packages (e.g., Kerberos) I was used to from Athena on my lab machines
a couple of years ago, and couldn't get the sources on athena-dist to
compile on a DECstation, the only response I got from Athena was
laughter and "making software for other people isn't our job." As X
proved, there is considerable intangible benefit for MIT if our
non-commercial packages are the standards.
