Jeff,
Knowing how the alias extract works I find it unlikely that this is
stale data winding up in the aliases database. I think what's going
on here is that you're forgetting about a level of indirection in
moira.

Many people (myself included) ahve their athena mail forwarded outside
MIT using chpobox.
We're still subscribed as type USER rather than type STRING so that,
when the outside email address change, it's a simple matter of
updateing the forwarding point with chpobox instead of having to get
six dozen list administrators to all make the same change..
If you go through the list of users which don't match, and look at
their forwarding addresses using expn or chpobox, you should be able
to figure out which ones are forwarding to dead addresses..
