Accomplishments past period:
- Met with 2nd IBM Business partner. Obtained second opinion regarding
TSM configuration in UNIX environment.
- Updated TSM VM cost model.
- Completed TSM UNIX cost model.
- Continued to collect data regarding implementation plan.
Goals for next period:
- Prepare P670 RS6000 spreadsheet for cost comparison.
- Make final recommendation decision(s).
- Finish draft and review final report.
- Complete implementation timeline.
Issues:
- Compaq touts it's SAN hardware as being 'open', but the roadblocks we've
encountered (additional money, ~$50K for support of TSM in the Compaq
SAN and the Compaq equipment not listed as being supported by Tivoli)
attempting to fit TSM into the existing MIT Compaq disk infrastructure
indicates that is not the case. Still communicating with Compaq reps.
- IBM aggessive on new P670 solution. IBM and business partner net with
Roger to discuss 670 and AIX futures at MIT. Need to cost out new
RS600 model for comparison.
Key learnings:
- TSM UNIX cost model indicates TSM monthly client charge needs to be
increased from the current rate of $5/mo to ~$16 for TSM to be cost
recovery on UNIX platform.
- Compaq SAN hardware not as 'open' as advertised.
Team dynamics:
- Good.
Additonal comments:
- Project extended to June 7th due to unplanned 'outage' of project leader.
