Accomplishments past period:
- Met with IBM Business partner to discuss performance and bottleneck
issues on proposed hardware configuration.
- Met with Peter Kelley to discuss the Sun Solaris configuration and
the SAN environment in the ASST space.
- Met with Dan Hart and Pete Kelley in an ongoing effort to verify
SAN components in mixed environment (Sun, Compaq, IBM)
- Met with a member of the IS/Network team regarding impact of TSM
growth on our subnet.
- TSM software cost estimates completed.
- Basic estimate of hardware completed. Refinement of hardware estimates
ongoing.
- Began investigation into TSM cost recovery structure. Met with Cecilia
for overview of cost/financial model.
Goals for next period:
- Assess cost recovery issues
- Develop implementation plan
Issues:
Key learnings:
- In order to maintain the flexibility that we now have to access
all 3590 tape drives within the 3494 from all TSM servers, we'll need
to fiber attach the 3590 drives.
- Trying to fit TSM into our existing infrastructure raises significant
issues (compatibility, support) due the the 3-way multi vendor
environment (Sun, IBM, Compaq). We are pursing all our options to
determine the best/most cost effective plan for implementing TSM in
our UNIX environment.
- Meeting with the IS/Network team member indicated that even if TSM
thruput increased fourfold from 200 GB to 800 GB (spread over a 24
hour period), it would not seriously impact our subnet.
Team dynamics:
- Good.
Additional comments:
- None at this time.
