ACCOMPLISHMENTS PAST PERIOD:
- Larry Stone built a preliminary Web database to manage information about
thesis "holds". Still needs refinement and real content, but take a look
at http://rotarran/hold/index.html
- Keith sent out personal appeals to students to urge their participation
and has finally gotten some positive responses from them!
GOALS FOR THE COMING PERIOD:
- Refine the "holds" database.
- Collect some e-theses by continuing to followup with individual students.
- (2nd try) Meet with staff from library cataloging section to discuss a
couple of outstanding e-thesis procedural issues.
ISSUES:
- It's critically important that we collect enough e-theses during this
pilot project to prepare us for scaling up in the near future. This has
technical, procedural and political implications. It's hard to test the
system and the idea without REAL theses from REAL students.
KEY LEARNINGS:
- Students don't tend to do any "tasks" unless they're forced.
