Project Name: EHSS - Environmental Health & Safety Management System
Project Leader: Rob Smyser, Rocklyn Clarke
Report Date April 27, 2000
Submitted by: Rob Smyser
URL: http://web.mit.edu/is/discovery/ehss/

Accomplishments past period:
- presented executive level summary view of the project to Jamie Lewis
Keith, the sponsor. Well received.
- had an entities and relationships data modelling exercise with Scott
Thorne. Very productive.
- met with EMAX, a potential vendor of procurement and inventory/tracking
software for managing chemical reagants. Looks promising, esp as SciQuest
now owns EMAX -- opportunity for synergy.

Goals for the coming period:
- Refine underlying data model with Scott and the team.
- Have a conversation with Susan Azary re integration perspective.
- Get vendor selection efforts more coordinated between Procurement,
Lorraine Rappaport, and our team.
- Assemble more design details to support ballpark cost estimates.
- Present executive level summary of the project at an offsite retreat of
MIT E. H. & S. folks May 4.
- being to prepare for a ExecVP/Provost/Chancellor level presentation to
occur in June.

Issues:
Procurement is pursuing a chemicals purchasing system on their own; the
choice of system will have a big impact on our system. There is
opportunity for a win/win if we coordinate and work together.

Key learnings:
A number of vendors offer very complete systems, with opportunities to
tie in to our local databases. Starting to look like "why reinvent the
wheel" as far as Materials Management is concerned.
There will still be substantial Build to do on components of the project
that are not about inventory and control.

Team dynamics:
   All is well.
