Good morning everyone,
I would appreciate your reactions to an idea I've been trying to
form (and you know how hard that is!).
We're entering the fourth quarter of this fiscal year, and,
coincidentally, approaching the 5 year marker for IS as a Process-centered
organization.
I'm considering a Discovery half-day program for late spring -
early summer, inviting all of you as leaders of Discovery projects during
the past year to review the accomplishments in Discovery and to use your
collective wisdom to reflect upon your experience and to talk with me about
how to improve the process. This is a component of a continuous improvement
effort which includes inputs such as the bi-weekly Magellan meetings.
This proposed half-day effort has a broader goal; I would like to
gather and analyze together your experiences in Discovery situations so
that we can make the best decisions for each project. Capturing the
knowledge embedded in your experiences is a responsibility for Process
Dirs. and it is a challenge. Building a process for a "knowledge
repository" or "memory" for Discovery lays the groundwork for better
management of its content and for changing how MIT, IS, and other I/T
organizations view Discovery in general. Entering FY2001, I would like to
achieve a proactive capture, management, and integration of the knowledge
within Discovery to provide all of us with a set of flexible, effective
tools.
So, there's the pitch. I would appreciate:
1. your reaction(s) to this idea.
2. your interest - I realize that all of us have incredibly busy schedules
and that a half-day commitment is large. If you feel that this kind of
program has little or no value for you or IS, let me know. I don't want to
waste anyone's time.
From your feedback, I'll try to make a decision quickly. If there
are positive responses, I will move to the next steps of setting a
schedule, logistics, etc.
Many thanks!
Greg
