Recent accomplishments:

- Received and reviewed more responses to our web form. The responses
suggest that our service description is a pretty good match to the
  expressed need.

- Decided to recommend a group-based quota system, to which a billing
component could be added if necessary:
  - The service will support "reservations" for course work, via
    access-controlled queues.
  - A general queue would serve individual users, who would still be
required to register for the service.
  - Access would be administered by faculty liaisons and/or accounts.

- We estimate that 20 machines should be in the initial pool of slaves,
at a cost of about $5K per slave, with a 2-year renewal. We expect
the master to have a higher cost, maybe around $15K, including some
  form of redundancy.

- We have initial estimates of the dev, ops, and support resources required
for development and ongoing maintenance of the service, though these
need to be worked out in more detail.

- Made some progress on a prototype based on PBS, using forwarded tickets.

- Tracked down some issues concerning ticket/token renewal.

Upcoming goals:

- Work out some details of how reservations would work.

- Prepare to report back to the "December 17" group about the expressed
  needs for a longjobs service.

- More prototype work.

- Begin planning of a project pilot.

Issues:

- Much of the expressed need is to run SGI-specific software.
