Accomplishments past period:
- Worked with metadata development tools and metatdata to MARC converter.
We are close to having data ready for test Barton.
- Newest version of GIS software (SDE) and documentation was loaded.
- Continued looking at peer institutions' spatial data solutions.
- Discussed goals of project with major stakeholder.
- Attended open GIS talk with one team member.
Goals for the coming period:
- Schedule time with sponsor to discuss time delays we have experienced and
implications.
- Install Oracle on test server.
- Design a test database and start to load data.
- Continue investigating best practices in peer institutions.
- Continue working with metadata developers and converters. Select a
metadata developer that produces the cleanest html.
- Load MARC data (from metadata converter) into the "test" Barton catalog.
Issues:
- Time constraints on person loading software on the test machine. We made
no further progress on the basic GIS software and loading test data.
Key learnings:
- Metadata compilers produced non standard html.
Team dynamics:
- I am scheduling time to talk to the team members to get everyone on the
same, or nearby, page.
-Tom Grayson is unable to contribute very much time due to academic
commitments. He feels that he could spend much more time after the
semester ends.
We had a great conversation during our last meeting as we considered
cataloguing and metadata issues.
Cheers,
Daniel
