Project Name: Third Barton Project (Project to find a replacement
Library Management System)
Project Management Team: Nina Davis-Millis, Joan Kolias, Carl Jones
Report Date: March 3, 2000
URL: http:/macfadden.mit.edu:9500/c3/3dbarton
Accomplishments Past Period:
- A draft version of the RFP is underway.
- Work also underway with functional groups putting together the
scenarios for vendors to follow during the extended demos.
- Site visits March 8-9. Firmed up scheduling of visits to Temple
U. and Drexel U. in Philadelphia, both Innovative sites. We made a
special effort to include time for a conversation with Drexel on the
afternoon of the 8th as they can tell us more about their experiences
bringing up Innovative's Millennium system with Oracle as an integral
part of the back-end dbms. The day after we will visit Rutgers U.,
which is a SIRSI Unicorn site.
- We had a conference call with Innovative to discuss details
of their
use of Oracle in Millennium. This was very informative and helped
explain more of what Oracle will provide connectivity, a way to share
data more easily with other systems on campus, and also allow
for much
greater flexibility in terms of reports (which can be run using a
third-party report tool in addition to Innovative's own "canned"
reports).
- Work still in progress on report for Steering Commmittee
providing an overview of what has been accomplished so far.
Goals for the coming period:
- Finish the draft RFP and submit to Steering Committee for
comments/approval.
- Contact vendors about the RFP process and try to establish a
rough demo timetable.
- Firm up scenarios.
Key Learnings:
- None
Issues:
- One of the vendors is still making noises about being
excluded from the list of vendors we will continue to look at
during the next round.
