Project Name: Third Barton Project (Project to find a replacement
for the MIT LIbrary Management System)
Project Management Team: Nina Davis-Millis, Joan Kolias, Carl Jones
Report Date: November 19, 1999
URL: http:/macfadden.mit.edu:9500/c3/3dbarton

Accomplishments Past Period:

- Continued de-briefing sessions with Functionality Teams and their impresions
of the 5 systems presented at the demo's: Cataloging, Aquisitions,
Circulation, OPAC, Systems, and Processing have been heard from.

There are some clear trends in terms of staff preferences, with one early
favorite and two others over which staff are fairly divided.

Goals for the coming period:

- Two final debriefing sessions, Financial and Technical (with members of the
Integration Team), are scheduled for Monday, 11/22.

- Continue to do follow-up by calling other sites running the systems most
seriously under consideration.

Key Learnings: none

Issues:

- One of our main objectives for this phase had been to cut the number of vendors
going on to the detailed demonstration stage down to two. However, there appear
to be enough questions about the choice of the second system to make evaluating
three systems in more detail a distinct possibility. A closer examination of
the functionality, relative ease-of-use, and overall ability to fit into the
MIT
computing infrastructure, should throw their differences into sharper relief.

Team Dynamics: none
