ACCOMPLISHMENTS PAST PERIOD:
- Holds database was finally(!) populated, thanks to TLO staff.
- Thumbnails are now created for all newly scanned theses, and Larry is
planning to add thumbnails for the rest of the scanned theses already
online. This is a significant enhancement to the collection.
- This summer our Digital Thesis Library was featured in the Scout Report
<http://scout.cs.wisc.edu/report/sr/1999/scout-990806.html> and even in USA
Today!
- Our site has been linked to from the Networked Digital Library of Theses
and Dissertations <http://www.theses.org/>.
- Another meeting has been set for next week with a scanner dealer: trying
to identify hardware and software which could meet the specs we need for
scanning paper theses.
GOALS FOR THE COMING PERIOD:
- Must begin to plan strategy for a different approach to attracting
students to submit theses online.
ISSUES:
- We haven't been able to get many students to submit their theses online.
Only about 15 total since spring. There is no strong enticement to get
them to take the extra time to do so, and a requirement is unlikely.
- With the departure of Bill Comstock from the Document Services staff this
past June, Keith has had little time to devote to this project. A
replacement for Bill isn't likely to arrive before November or December, if
we're lucky.
