Hi Dave,

I pondered a slightly different version your question. I asked the
question, "What should a team expect of its sponsor during the project?"
I limited the scope of my question on purpose in attempt to smoke out more
detail for a potential "contract negotiation" discussion between the team
leader and sponsor. Not surprisingly, there is overlap with your team's
list.

What should a team expect of its sponsor during the project?

1) When asked (or when the sponsor feels it is necessary), meet with the
team to clarify issues, brainstorm ideas, clarify scope and expectations,
etc.
2) Communicate with the team leader regularly to discuss progress, issues,
etc. (Depending on what the TL and sponsor negotiate, this could be
regularly scheduled meetings or periodic email exchanges. Emphasis on the
word "exchanges" ;-)
3) Actively support team during presentations or check-ins with outside
groups, e.g., ITLT. Help team prepare for these presentations. As needed,
help team interpret the feedback from these sessions and pursue next steps.
4) Respond quickly to requests for help on issues that the team cannot
resolve alone. Escalate issues as necessary.
