labs() is the version of abs() that takes along and returns a
long. (abs == absolute value.) This was presumably at configure time,
not compile time. However, that probably doesn't help -- so next time,
try supplying some useful information in your bug report, like
what platform
what compiler (gcc? native cc? "you mean I need a compiler?" :-)
if it hangs, do a "ps" or something and see what's actually
running...
