Hi,
I'm back again. If yo remember I was the one who bugged regarding
the installation of kerberos a few days back. Thanks to your help
I have been able to make a very primitive version of
Kerberos running in my home directory ( I still do not have permissions
to the root and so i had modify the source codes and so on.. )
I have been able to get crdentials and stuff. I was trying to sun the
simple client application in src/appl/simple/server & client.

There were a couple of problems with it. There is no documentation
along with it how to run the application. Also I have tried
to modify the cleint and server codes so that instead of talking
at some reserved port ( to which only root can connect ) they talk at some
random ports.
Assume that my host name is bowling.cis.ohio-state.edu where I am running
the server. Before running the server I did the add_random_key sample/bowling.cis.ohio-state.edu using kdb5_edit and got a random key generated. Also following
that did the extract_srvtab .. to get the file WRFILE:bowling.cis.ohio-state.edu-new-srvtab.
First question - Where should I copy this file ( I do not have permissions
to /etc/ . Right now I have copied it into the My source dir i.e KRBSRCDIR ( whatever I had set at the time of configuring kerberos ) Is that the right place. I guess not because when i run the server and the client I get the following
errors :

sim_server sample 9887
sim_server: No such file or directory while reading request.

The client seems to have sent all the data successfully.

sim_client bowling 9887

nt authentication data: 456 bytes
Sent checksummed message: 122 bytes
Sent encrypted message: 123 bytes

9887 is the port on which they talk. Also while tracing through the code I guess
the error happens when the server tries to extract the key for the service sample
it does not fid the file where the key is stored. I guess the file must
]be the srvtab file and i am placing the file in the wrong place.

Again, I will really really really appreciate your help.I would not be able t
o get this far , if you hadn't helped me earlier.

thanks in anticipation

Nitin
