Subject: Virusscan 8.0i Release Announcement

Good Afternoon,

On behalf of the Virusscan Release Team, I am pleased to announce the
release of Virusscan Enterprise 8.0i. Virusscan is an antivirus program
that runs on the Windows 2000 and XP client and Windows 2000 and 2003
server platforms. Virusscan Enterprise 8.0i contains many enhancements
and new features, including the ability to detect and remove a growing
number of spyware/malware programs and to scan and prevent scripts from
performing malicious actions.

Notable Features of Virusscan:
------------------------------
-Access protection
-Integrated anti-malware/spyware functionality
-Blocking (This feature blocks connections from remote computers which
have infected files in a shared folder)
-Buffer overflow protection
-Unwanted programs policy
-Script scanning
-Microsoft Outlook e-mail scanning
-Selective updating (autoupdate)
-Alert manager (local alerting)
-Repair installation
-Error reporting service

Known Issues:
-------------
-limited anti-malware/spyware capabilities: Although this new version
of Virusscan contains anti-spyware/malware functionality, it is not yet
a complete solution. The release team urges you to review MIT's
anti-malware page to learn how you can better protect yourself against
this increasingly prevalent threat to your privacy:
http://web.mit.edu/ist/topics/security/malware.html

How to Obtain:
--------------
MIT possesses a site license for Virusscan, so the program is available
to MIT staff, students, faculty, and affiliates free of charge. You can
download the product from the MIT IS&T Windows Software Site:
https://web.mit.edu/software/win.html. Please note that you need a
current personal certificate to download this software. If you do not
have a current personal certificate, then you can obtain one from
https://ca.mit.edu/.
