Below are the major services that the SWRT provides that are Windows related.
1. Testing and release of support for new versions of Windows for end users
(i.e. not servers so much).
2. Release of Windows versions of commercial and MIT developed software,
including testing, support preparation, communication, and installers.
3. Testing and recommendation regarding service packs and sometime hotfixes.
4. Involved in the recommendations for minimum and recommended hardware
specifications.
5. Developing documentation for the Windows platform, particularly around
security and proper virus configurations. (e.g.,
http://web.mit.edu/net-security/www/one-sheets/winhack.html)
6. Content owner for the Windows Topic page and many of the Windows
applications.
7. Distribution and tracking of site license & volume licensed software for
Windows via download and CD distributions.
8. Escalation point for the Computing Help Desk regarding general Windows
problems.
9. De-support of old versions of Windows and Windows applications.
