It's a random choice by the cache manager. It help balance out the load
accross all available servers.

No, it's random. IP address is not involved.

Hmm.. all of ours are in the same room (all 15 of them). I sure like
having them all in one place.  The only disadvantage I can see is that
if you lose power, you lost them all, or if some other physical disaster
(tornado, earthquake, evil daemons, etc) occurs, it would probably
effect them all.
